Photography as a craft

I believe photography is not only an art but also a craft, and I treat it as such. As an artist as well as a craftsman, I intervene at all stages of the creation of an image. Most of them are made on medium format film with my faithful Hasselblad camera, although I use digital as well.

The moment I press the shutter is the culmination of years of learning and practice. From exposures of a few milliseconds to several hours, light from my subjects reaches the emulsion and triggers chemicals reactions that record a brief moment in time.

After a long process, a print is born

The moment the shutter opens and the subject is recorded on film is just the beginning. What follows is a long process that will eventually create a print.

developing and scanning

I develop and scan the film by myself. As a perfectionist, I treat every negative according to a rigorous procedure that I have developed over the years.

editing and post-processing

Once they've been developed, digitalized and post-processed, I wait several month before coming back to the photographs. This gives me the necessary distance to select the final image.

final print

The final image is printed by Picto laboratory in Paris. Picto is in my opinion the best print lab there is. Their reputation for excellence is worldwide since 1950. Every print I have ordered from them has always given me a deep feeling of satisfaction.

printing process

The printing process I choose is the Piezography Pro Charcoal print for black and white images, and Pigment Inkjet for color photographs. My choice of paper is the Hahnemühle Photo Rag® Bright White 310g, 100% cotton, museum quality for highest age resistance. Artwork is shipped worldwide. All images have white margin which allows me to sign and number in light grey. The proposed sizes are those of the paper and not of the image. Other formats are possible on request. Genuine Limited Edition Artwork

In France, the work of art is defined directly by the law. Decree n°95-172 of 17 February 1995 of the General Tax Code gives a definition of what can be considered a work of art:

"Any photographs taken by the artist, printed by him or under his control, signed and numbered within the limit of thirty copies, all formats and media combined."

Each print is signed, serialized and numbered up to a total limit of 30 copies,
all formats and media combined.
Each print is delivered with a certificate of authenticity.

Article 238 bis AB of the General Tax Code provides for a special deduction in favour of companies that purchase original works of art to exhibit them to the public.

Good to know

Piezo and pigment prints must be framed behind glass or plexiglass. Failing to frame your print without this protection would negate its enhanced archivability and make it susceptible to damage.

Very long-lasting pigment inks are printed in very high definition on Hahnemühle paper. The result is a true fine art print whose longevity and richness of value enhance the print.
